pah-lee-SIS-tik OH-vuh-ree SIN-drohm

Nurse: What are you here for?

Me: The first day of my last period was on May 8th and that would make it CD 60.

Nurse: When was your last period?

Me: May 8th

Nurse: You've been bleeding for 60 days?

Me: Umm no.

I have zero patience left after that conversation! Thank goodness the doctor had more brain cells than her nurse. I went to my obgyn appointment today and my doc wants to put me on Provera to jumpstart AF (this I expected). She also suspects that I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome - pah-lee-SIS-tik OH-vuh-ree SIN-drohm for those of you who need the phonetic version) and has recommended that I get back on BCP for 6 months in order to regulate my cycle and to possibly start Clomid after that (this I did not expect). I'm certainly going to look into more natural options and I'm going to start charting again this next cycle to determine if I'm ovulating or not befoe making any decisions. I was in tears (and I'm not a crier) leaving the doctor's office because all that resinated with me was the part where she wanted me to wait an additional 6 months before trying again. The only silver lining that I can see is that I will be spending my birthday in Vegas at the end of the month.

  1. I am so sorry! Is that standard for them to put you back on the pill?? That does not seem right? JLT was diagnosed with PCOS and I don't recall her doctor putting her on the pill and telling her to wait. That just doesn't make any sense to me. Yes the pill would give you a bunch of hormones for six months and regulate you but once you get off it again it would just go back to how it was so what is the point? I guess I don't understand. How frustrating!!

  2. It doesn't seem natural, right?! I even made the comment that it seemed like it was going backwards but my doc reassured me that this had worked for other women. I feel like she was too eager to just put me on meds...something I hate! I'm going through tests right now and we'll figure out what the heck is wrong before I make any decisions. I'm not so sure I like this doctor anymore.

  3. Just a thought, but maybe it wouldn't necessarily hurt to get a second opinion..is that possible?

  4. I have a great internal specilist that I'm seeing who is also getting all of my results. I see her next week and although she's not an obgyn, she should still be able to give me another opinion. I've also already started my search for a new obgyn :)
